Slidell Mission Trip

In my Junior year of High school, I spent my fall break in Slidell, Louisiana where Hurricane Katrina hit.  We stayed at the church where the Red Cross was set up.  We helped serve meals to all of the victims, worked at the "store" stocking with items sent from people around the United States, and cleaned out a house that had been under water.  We first had to get the standing 2 feet of mud out of the garage.  When doing that, we came upon many of the victims prized belongings.  Then we went into the house and tried to recover anything that we thought she might be able to use.  After that, we began to strip the house of all of the walls so that we could get it down to its frame.  We had to completely take out the walls  since the house had mold on the walls.  Although it was devastating to see the damage wrought by Katrina, it was a rewarding experience to help and bring peace to another being.
